tzu.listening First off, the song is lathering in DR!P. I love the true African strength in her riddummss!!

Let's just say the jungle understands this. More bars than we as Black people in history have seens.

It reminds me that the stride is long, but we are strength. The seeds of hatred starve themselves and that our love has enough to heal ourselves and every(one)thing else.

Thank you!

about

“Nilotic” is an assertive and telling story of both how Elsy sees the world and the spiritual journey she embarked on to arrive there. Sampled shout-outs are interspersed throughout, as “Nilotic” ends with the resounding final word, ‘never forget who you are’.

Elsy Wameyo says of “Nilotic”: "In search of the missing link, I dug deep attempting to dismantle what the world had so cruelly constructed. With all my irritation, confusion and fury I began to write out a game plan. Claiming back what the enemy had stolen. My heart wept until it couldn’t anymore. But as I remembered our mothers, I didn’t dare to drop another tear. Who am I?"

lyrics

This is that culture Nilotic be the entity
Stand down the queen’s here exotic in identity
Can never be the centrepiece if you were never meant to be
Lathered in the jewels and the gems I’m the masterpiece
Just admit I’m the golden piece I’m
You still in the making but I know what be mine
Admit I’m divine take a sip it’s tea time
I’m here to take my place and what was rightfully mine
I’ll have all the gold and the diamond from the Guinea
Give me back the tones and the stylin’ in Somali
Oh run it back the tea that you sippin’ Malawi
That ain’t even half of it so Benny hurry hurry

Let me hold a congress for the people in the back
Delegate a new position it’s a counterattack
Rip up the monarchy a warning of attack
Yeah we coming back like we never left matter of fact
Escort the convoy formation to the lead
Recruit the ones with the minds that we need
A constitute that they could never run
Bars they shoot they be irrelevant

They watching as they folks be killed
They bro’s be killed
And though they bleed
We need to proceed
We to stand to defeat
Defending the peace
Double that
Firm at the feet
We never fatigued
Double that
Reigning supreme
We king of the team
Double that
Queen of the east
You better believe it
Double that

I’m out to find the missing link
Equate the inequivalent
The massacre before your eyes and you still ambivalent
Moving in increments
At this state it is crippling
No logical rational state of mind it’s a predicament
It ain’t immediate
Cause half of y’all conceited
Assassinate the people who aided to your existence
Now watching from a distance sheltered lovely by the system
That executes a black man
And call police the victim

A pledge of allegiance
Practice what you be preaching
Roll up in that new legion
Marching up we stampeding then taking over that region
Still fighting for that freedom
That’s the call to unleash them

Came in from the village ran up the division
Won’t no nope won’t stop it’s a given
Somebody get him wrapped up in the vision
Can’t stop won’t stop now for the vision
Marked up bruised and scarred
Trace back who we are yelling free we

Done came up too far
To deny who we are
Hata kama
Never forget who you are
